Oli in Color is the artistic name of Olivier Monaghan-Cossette from Quebec City in Canada. This project launched its first album “11 Days in the Doghouse” in November 11th 2024.
Oli in Color
The project’s name comes from the idea of human diversity and emotions, which inspires Olivier and its first album.
“I thought that color was a good representation of what I’m trying to project, because all colors are different, and there are so many different shades of each color. Nothing’s the same, and ultimately, diversity and acceptance of having people around you who are different, that’s what makes everything beautiful, […] and it’s okay to have these different emotions, and these different types of view at all times, and I feel like it gives each and every one of us a chance to really be ourselves.”

Among the project’s lyrical influences are Tyler, The Creator and Kendrick Lamar. While on a musical level, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Tame Impala are a big influence.
11 Days in the Doghouse
11 Days in the Doghouse is the artist’s first exploration in which he experiments with different sounds and themes to find what he and his audience like best. This is a very personal album for Olivier, in which he expresses his emotions through music.
“The album is about 11 songs that describe this process of being inside a doghouse, and the doghouse kind of represents what’s going on inside my mind during those 11 days of solitude, and it’s a process of going up and down with our emotions, and being in these very real states that we want to escape from, but at the same time, we want to embrace them and learn from them, […] at the end, we come out of the doghouse after the 11 days, having grown, and having learned a bunch about ourselves.”

The album addresses themes of growth and acceptance. Other themes are about expressing gratitude, learning from the past, and ultimately staying positive when everything seems negative.
Future projects
Oli in Color is currently working on a new album, which is more upbeat and incorporates genres like jazz and rap, but it still keeps the authenticity of that atmospheric vibe, the alternative and kind of indie vibe. Also, some collaborations are going to be part of this new material. This particularly excites Oli, due to the possibility of expanding his horizons and learning from people who have different perspectives through their music.
